hi blog
watched Singapore Dreaming on arts central yesterday.
most real depiction of Singaporean life on film ever.
i guess it showed me the very ugly side of materialism
especially the 5 "Cs".
most of us will agree that the 5 "Cs" is just far-fetched dreams
but the truth is, we do regard the 5 "Cs" as a gauge of someone's success.
don't we?
quote from the movie(roughly):
"nowadays people look at what house you live in and what car you drive!"
gawd damn true.
and.
what are we pursing in life all the time?
our dreams? our passion?
or just a blind devotion to the very root of evil,
money?
do you think that you are pursing your dreams at all?
most parents will ask their kids "ah boy, what is your ambition, your dream?"
when you were young, you dreamt to be a musician, artist or teacher...
but when you age, you find out that these dreams are so difficult to fulfill
so, you need help. you asked around.
who would you trust the most? who would love to see you succeed?
your parents.
you ask them "mom, what should i do when i grow up?"
mom says "whatever job that is the most lucrative, makes the most money."
so now, you are snapped back into reality.
knowing that money, instead of oxygen, is the essence of life
you embark on your dull and meaningless quest on material success
you did whatever was necessary to be closer to your new goal
trust was never in your dictionary
betrayal seems more logical to you.
you know that you have morals,
but you can't let it prevent you from reaching your goal
your new meaning of life.
so one day, you screwed up
big time.
you lost your job, your car, your house.
your life.
your goal seems to far away, almost impossible to even see it
you hide in a corner of your room, afraid.
after knowing that you have failed,
your parents feel that they have failed too
failed to bring you up properly
failed to give you happiness
now they realise that they have been telling you the wrong things ever since you were young
"money is important", "study hard now, so next time you can have big car, big house!"
so they gave you a hug and weeped
your parents ask you the same question they have asked you 20years ago
"ah boy, what is your ambition, your dream?"
you paused to think and your mind goes blank
finally you replied
"ma, i don't know. i really don't"
bye blog
